JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

The East Brunswick Police Department is pleased to announce that it will be accepting applications for the position of Police Officer, including individuals who are not currently certified. Proudly hailed as one of New Jersey’s 25 greatest towns, East Brunswick’s 22.5 square miles is home to a diverse population of approximately 49,000. A strategic location and a progressive outlook have fostered a dynamic growth of attractive and desirable residential developments, an excellent school system, shopping centers, state-of-the-art office complexes, and medical services.

A non-refundable application fee of $100.00 will be charged to all applicants.

The deadline for applications is 11:59 PM, March 26, 2025. The recruitment process will be limited to the first 150 applicants. We encourage you not to wait to submit your application. All previous applications submitted to the East Brunswick Township Police Department are null and void.

The following individuals will be classified as CLASS-A applicants and are exempt from participating in the Physical Agility Test and the Written Exam.  Upon review and acceptance of your application, you will be scheduled for your preliminary interview. 

CLASS - A Applicants

  • Individuals who possess a Basic Course for Police Officer certification
  • Individuals who possess Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II certification (must be waivable)
  • Individuals currently enrolled in a New Jersey PTC approved police academy for Basic Course for Police Officer certification or Special Law Enforcement Class II certification.

TESTING DATE(S):

The physical agility test will be held on 3/30/2025 at the East Brunswick High School track.

The written exam will be held on 4/2/20254 for candidates who successfully pass the physical agility test.

The preliminary interviews are tentatively scheduled for 4/22/2025 and 4/23/2025 for Class-A applicants and those scoring high enough on the written exam.

The oral board interviews are tentatively scheduled for 4/29/2025 and 4/30/2025 for top-scoring candidates.

HIRING PROCESS

  • A physical agility test administered by the East Brunswick Police Department, consisting of a 1.5-mile run, 300-meter sprint, pushups, and sit-ups.
  • A written test administered by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police
  • Preliminary Interviews conducted by the East Brunswick Police Department
  • Oral interview conducted by the East Brunswick Police Department
  • Background Investigation
  • Medical Examination
  • Psychological Screening
  • Drug Testing
  • Academy Training (unless already certified)

 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POLICE OFFICER

Applicants must:

  • Must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of the State of New Jersey, and possess a valid New Jersey Driver's License at the time of appointment.
  • Must be no less than 18 years of age, or more than 35 years of age, at the time of appointment. In accordance with New Jersey Statutes, age exemptions for military service and prior L.E. service may be granted to meet the maximum age standards.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and speak the English language clearly and intelligently.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have visual acuity 20/100 in each eye without artificial correction, 20/30 corrected. Must have normal color perception, depth perception, and peripheral vision. Must have auditory acuity at or below 25db in each ear.
  • Must have a minimum of an Associate's Degree or two years of full-time college credits (60 credits) from an accredited college or university or 30 college credits from an accredited college and have completed at least two years of full-time active duty military service with Honorable Discharge (Military service must have been completed within last three years to be eligible for this option). Credits or degrees must be recognized by the American Council on Education as listed in the Accredited Institutions of Post-Secondary Education.
  • Must be physically capable of meeting the required firearms qualifications mandated by the Attorney General guidelines. Must be psychologically fit to perform all the duties of a police officer. Must meet the requirements set forth in the job description for a police officer and pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Applicants will be required to show proficiency in writing and basic computer skills.
  • Successful candidates will be given conditional offers of employment and then must pass a urinalysis as well as comprehensive medical and psychological examinations.
  • Must pass a written examination.
  • Must pass a physical fitness indicator test.

Successful candidates who are hired are sent to the Police Academy unless the applicant is appropriately certified by the Police Training Commission (PTC). The police academy is a training program that is approximately 22 weeks long.

Upon successful completion of the Police Academy, officers are assigned to the Patrol Division and to a Field Training Officer for an additional 16 weeks.
