The Town of Fairfield is seeking applicants for the position of
Part-Time Animal Control Officer
Applicants must have a valid Connecticut Driver’s License and pass an extensive background check. Applicants must have good communication skills, experience with animals, be able to pick up and move 50 pounds or more during emergencies and required to work independently at times. Applicant must also have the ability to respond to emergency call outs for service in a timely manner.
Applicants will be required to pass a minimum 100 hours of mandatory training during first year of employment. Some computer skills are necessary for report writing and various Animal Control Officer programs.
Part Time Animal Control Officers respond to complaints involving roaming dogs, barking dogs, dog bites, cruelty, sick wildlife and rabies related complaints. They are responsible for the enforcement of animal laws for the State of CT and Town of Fairfield. Animal Control Officers also complete computerized reports on complaints as needed, answers phones, and show adoptable dogs to the Public. With proper training, employee would also be required to control/contain sick or vicious animals as needed. Training provided for Tactical Baton, Pepper Spray and Taser.
