About the Old Saybrook Police Department

ABOUT US

Members of the Old Saybrook Department of Police Services proudly perform critical traditional and nontraditional law enforcement services on a daily basis to the citizens and visitors of the Town of Old Saybrook. The Department is made up of  six Divisions; Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Youth Services, Emergency Services, Emergency Communications & Records, and Professional Standards & Technology. These Divisions work together as a TEAM to provide exceptional service to the citizens and visitors of Old Saybrook.

Our Department was extremely fortunate to have moved into a state of the art new police facility in April of 2015

THE PATROL DIVISION

The Patrol Division works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year enforcing criminal laws, motor vehicle laws, and town ordinances. Patrol officer’s responsibilities include investigation of crimes, motor vehicle enforcement, investigation of traffic accidents, responding to assistance calls, and participating in community oriented programs just to name a few. Officers from Old Saybrook are the state certified medical First Responders. We respond to all medical emergencies in Old Saybrook. All officers have at least Emergency Medical Responder certification but most are Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). Many of our officers also are specifically trained and participate in special operations such as K-9 handling, accident reconstruction, bicycle patrol, marine patrol, ATV operations & critical incident response.

CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIVE DIVISION

Members of the Criminal Investigative Division  have received advanced training in the areas of crime scene processing, narcotics investigations, homicide investigations, missing persons, sexual assault, child abuse, serious accidents and other criminal offenses. The division assists patrol officers in their investigations and will conduct investigations of a complicated matter.

YOUTH SERVICES DIVSION

The Youth Services Division devotes a considerable amount of effort working with the youth of our community. The Youth Services Unit includes certified School Resource Officers who are also D.A.R.E. certified. The officers are assigned to each of the schools in our community. The school resource officer program is a school-based policing program which takes a pro-active approach to community policing in our schools.

EMERGENCY SERVICES DIVISION

The Emergency Services Division serves many functions and incorporates many of the services we perform. The functions include, but are not limited to; First Responder Program, Environmental Task Force, Marine Services Unit, K-9 Unit, High Risk Entry Team, Civic Event Planning & Management, and Homeland Security.

DISPATCHERS

The Public Safety Dispatchers of the Emergency Communications Division are the first contact most people have with the Department of Police Services. Dispatchers answer all emergency 911 calls and routine calls for services. The Communications Center is Accredited to perform Emergency Medical Dispatching (medical direction over the phone) and dispatching police, fire and emergency medical personnel where these valuable resources are needed.
