POLICE RECORDS CLERK

(RECORDS UNIT SUPERVISOR)

The Excelsior Springs Police Department has an opening for a Police Records Clerk.  Work hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. The City of Excelsior Springs is an EOE.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (examples are illustrative only)

This position is a general clerical/typing/data entry position. The Police Records Clerk performs routine but highly responsible data entry, general records and communications assignments, and assists other personnel when necessary. Most work is carried out with a minimum of supervision. The Police Records Clerk performs a number of other essential functions, including the review of information within the Records Management System. This includes records retrieval and verification.  The Police Records Clerk will also handle routine citizen requests, electronic request, or requests via mail for reports and documents.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

General Office Skills - The Police Records Clerk must be able to show general knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment, of general business arithmetic and English, and must be able to write legibly and clearly. This position calls for a high degree of social skills, a consistent business attitude, mental alertness, tact, and courtesy.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

This position calls for high clerical aptitude, the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and spoken English, and the ability to hear, understand, and follow complex oral instructions. This position also calls for typing of at least 35 words per minute. Computer training in various office products is preferable.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Some college or business-related courses.

The City of Excelsior Springs is a suburb of Kansas City that is in both Clay and Ray Counties, and has a population of over 11,500.   Excelsior Springs is approximately 11 square miles in land area, and is home to the historic Elms Resort and Spa, a brand new $14 million community center, a progressive school district with excellent facilities, a large pasta manufacturing plant, a Walmart Supercenter, a new microbrewery restaurant, multiple wineries, and all three major US-based automobile dealerships. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Candidates must possess a valid driver's license
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to type at least 35 words per minute
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
  • Possess strong grammar skills
  • Pass a background investigation, truth verification test and a drug screening
