POLICE ACCREDITATION SPECIALIST - PART TIME

Town of Wallingford

DEPARTMENT: POLICE

GENERAL DUTIES:

This is a civilian position responsible for overseeing the accreditation process for the Town of Wallingford Police Department. The position performs a wide variety of duties associated with the accreditation process including reviewing policies and procedures, records management, and performing administrative audits and inspections. Provides assistance to department personnel in preparing for accreditation and recertification; Compiles and submits required reports, documents and forms pursuant to the accreditation process; Reviews accreditation standards as required to ensure compliance.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Oversees the accreditation process, including assessments; Evaluates and reports the efficiency and effectiveness of the accreditation program; Plans and monitors the on-site assessments and maintain appropriate records relating to accreditation activities; Conducts research, analysis and program evaluation related to the accreditation process; Performs a variety of complex administrative and professional assistance work in planning, coordinating and  managing the implementation, maintenance and adherence to the police department's accreditation; Maintains all files for compliance with the accreditation process; Assists in coordinating necessary training for Police Department employees on all new and revised policies; Assists in writing and reviewing all new and revised policies to ensure compliance with accreditation standards; Serves as a liaison between police administration, other department employees and outside agencies on the accreditation process. Submits reports to the Police Chief or designee and key staff on accreditation compliance; Represents the Police Department at meetings related to the accreditation process as determined by the Police Chief or designee; Performs other related duties as required

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Work is performed under the general direction of the Police Chief or other designated supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Generally, none, but may supervise others as assigned by the Police Chief or his designee.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of modern policing operations and administration; Ability to read and interpret materials concerning the police department and criminal justice processes; Ability to work independently with a high degree of self-initiation; Considerable planning and organization skills; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to resolve noncompliance issues to achieve compliance with standards or directives; Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with coworkers, officials, representatives of other agencies, and the general public; Considerable ability to create and publish documents, reports and presentations through the use of desktop and/or laptop computer systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

An Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, criminal justice, police administration, planning, public administration or related field plus two (2) years of experience in police work, or any equivalent combination of experience and training substituting on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires a comprehensive background investigation to include a local, state, and federal criminal history check.

Must possess and maintain a valid State of Connecticut motor vehicle operator's license.

The wage rage for the position is $32.00 to $42.00 per hour.
