POLICE OFFICERS

 

The Marion Police Department, a non-civil service agency, seeks entry level or certified candidate for the position of full-time police officer.  

Certified candidates must have successfully graduated from the Basic Recruit Police Academy and be certified as a full-time police officer by the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) and possess or be eligible for POST certification. Applicants must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.  A High School Diploma or GED is required, a college degree is preferred.  Certification as an E 9-1-1 call taker is also preferred. 

Applicants must possess a valid Massachusetts Operator’s License, and be eligible to obtain a Massachusetts LTC. Applicants must be a non-smoker for a period of 1 year prior to appointment (MGL41-101A). The successful candidate will be required to undergo an extensive background investigation, medical examination and psychological evaluation.  In addition, the successful candidate will be required to pass the Physical Abilities Test (PAT), administered by the Human Resources Division of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The current salary range is $55,187 to $75,240 after 12 years as well as the Marion Police Department Educational Incentive (Equivalent to Quinn Bill) for all qualified employees. Other incentives include longevity, super longevity, cleaning, clothing, and equipment stipend.  

A Police Officer works under supervision to perform law enforcement duties, protecting life, property, and the civil rights of individuals. Primary duties include patrol; interacting with citizens to provide service and render assistance; and preparing and completing records, reports, and other paperwork documenting incidents for use in prosecution. A Police Officer is dispatched to crime and emergency scenes in response to reported violations, accidents, domestic disputes and abuses, and other incidents; carries out crime scene duties; makes arrests and performs search and seizure; conducts investigations; and interviews witnesses, suspects, and complainants.
