Our agency is equipped with several drone units, some capable of night vision observation. Although a newer addition to the PD, the Drone Unit has proven itself to be a state-of-the-art asset, led by Pilot/Officer Paul Trenholme.
Several Patrol Division officers are trained in COBWEB police bike training, and are assigned as bicycle-mounted police officers for special events. Recently, during protests in Somerset, the Bike Unit proved their effectiveness.
The POP Team (Problem Oriented Policing) was formed to deal with intensive problem areas or situations which require more individualized attention than can be offered by the Patrol Division. Officers Kelly and Botelho have extensive specialized training in areas from crisis negotiation to drug interdiction.
The TEU (Traffic Enforcement) is made up of dedicated patrol officers who work to identify “problem areas” in Somerset for issues such as speeding, stop sign/light violations, or other traffic infractions. Click the photo above to complete a form to report traffic concerns or activities.
PROGRAMS
Our P.A.L. (Police Athletic League) program is one we are very proud of. The longest-standing community outreach program in our agency, we take pride in forming bonds with the children in our community. Please watch the video above!
Public Safety Day: Free to all who wish to attend, this event gives our Department and partner agencies a chance to show the public what we do, and to interact with those we serve. Detective Mike DeMoranville does a great job with this every year! Click the photo for more pictures and info!
Our Explorer Program is designed to provide young people of character and integrity with opportunities that promote leadership, confidence, discipline, and community service and to create positive relationships with police officers while developing an awareness of the purpose, mission and objectives of law enforcement.
Thanks go to former Somerset Officer Brian Dempsey and his POP Team partner Shaun Kelly for growing this toy drive over the years. We've made a lot of children happy over the years with these donations, and we hope to continue with help from our community! Click the photo for some great pictures.
