The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, Environmental Conservation Police Division, has multiple opportunities for Seasonal Patrol Officers (EnCon Rangers) throughout the State Park system.
 
This position is open to those that will be at least 21 years of age by May 30, 2024. This position requires attendance of mandatory training course (Ranger Training Academy) for those without POST certification. Applicants without current POST certification must be available on weekends during academy dates for in-person training. Also available for remote learning on select weekdays each week of the Ranger Training Academy.
 
POST police officer certification is not required. New applicants without POST police officer certification or previous EnCon Ranger experience must successfully complete one hundred and twenty (120) hours of mandated training prior to May 30th.    
 
All returning EnCon Rangers and POST certified officers must successfully complete mandated refresher training such as first aid/cpr, Connecticut law updates and others as directed prior to May 30th.   
 
Position Highlights
  • Seasonal Patrol Officers, also called EnCon Rangers, assist the State Environmental Conservation Police by working with the public to assist them in the safe and orderly enjoyment of our State Parks resources and activities, while providing for the enforcement of laws and regulations.
  • Selected candidates will perform the EnCon Ranger duties primarily at State Parks providing for security and enforcement of laws and regulations for State Parks.  
  • Hours: These are up to 40 hour per week positions with both first and second shift available.  
  • Location: The locations are primarily at State Parks, Forests, Waterways and recreation areas. 
  • Length of position: February 1, 2024, through December 1, 2024. Most positions will end after Labor Day Holiday. Seasonal hours are limited to 1040 hours per year. 1st and 2nd Shift.
