Community Service Officer

INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD OCTOBER 26TH FOR THIS POSITION
The position of Community Service Officer supports patrol with calls for service by responding to low level calls and taking police reports.
Nampa Police department adopted the Community Service Officer (CSO) program in 1995, employing two CSOs; now the department employs six full time CSOs. When the program was developed, the primary functions were to assist patrol, however, CSOs began running the evidence facility, taking care of the vehicle fleet, traffic control, procurement and much more.
As time has passed and the program has developed, we now have three CSOs working behind the scenes assisting detectives, assuring training is kept up to date, as well as coordinating and reviewing data for directed patrols. We employee three full time CSOs that work as patrol CSOs; while these three CSOs still work behind the scenes, they also handle a wide variety of calls for service.
These calls for service include:
- Abandoned vehicles
- Theft reports
- Automotive burglaries
- Fraud
- Harassment
- Found property
- Runaway and missing persons
- Traffic control
- Process crime scene
CSOs also coordinate:
- The Nampa Public Safety Academy
- Community service with Juveniles
- Graffiti clean-up
- Ride-a-longs
- Bike auctions
- Volunteers
Community Service Officer Employment Requirements
- No felony or serious misdemeanor convictions since the age of 18
- No under the age of 18 adult criminal waivers
- No undetected felony or serious misdemeanors committed by applicant since the age of 18
- No minor misdemeanor convictions in the last 5 years or extensive minor misdemeanor history
- No marijuana/cannabis use in the last 3 years
- No other illicit drug use in the last 5 years
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be 19 years of age or older
- Must be a legal citizen of the United States
Ability to take and pass required;
Oral board evaluation
Extensive FBI & criminal background check
Polygraph examination
Extensive psychological examination and evaluation
Medical fitness examination
Preference Points
Preference Points will be given to those individuals who meet one of the following criteria:
- Military experience will be accepted if the applicant’s actual duties were directly related to civil police work.
- Sixty-four (64) college credits. College credits must be from an accredited institution and may include academic or technical courses.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English - A language fluency test will be conducted.
