2nd Shift CORRECTIONAL NURSE or PARAMEDIC

Starting pay

$27.00 - $29.00 for an LPN / EMT-P

$30.00 - $32.00 for an RN

based on experience

LATERAL ENTRY

40 hrs / week

 

Minimum Acceptable Characteristics

  • RN Degree or LPN Degree or EMT-P with 5 or more years of experience.
  • Emergency Room experience.
  • Working knowledge of charting medications and medical care.
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures; filing, record keeping, etc.
  • Working knowledge of computer usage and programs such as MS Word and MS Excel.
  • General knowledge of the legal system including courts, prosecutor's office and probation office.
  • Able to prepare clear, concise and accurate reports and statements.
  • Able to deal with the staff and inmates in a professional, clear and courteous manner at all times.
  • Able to work closely with community organizations such as Consolidated Care.
  • Able to make decisions over the phone.
  • Able to be on call and come in on short notice.
  • Comfortable around inmates and detainees.
  • Able to climb stairs.
  • General knowledge of the operations of the LCSO.
  • Pass all LCSO general employment requirements.
  • Resident of Logan or an adjacent county within 90 days of employment.
  • Valid Ohio Driver's License

 

Job Duties in Order of Importance:

35% INITIAL MEDICAL EVALUATION OF ALL INMATES / DETAINEES:
Responsible for initial medical contact with all detainees of the Logan County Jail.
Reviews book-in records for all jail inmates and sees those with medical or mental health issues.
Makes referrals as necessary

25% SICK CALLS:
Sees inmates when requested by staff or the inmates themselves.

20% GENERAL RN DUTIES:
Assist staff physician with inmate physicals.
Draws blood for court ordered and doctor ordered blood tests.
Collects saliva and urine for testing.
Administers injections and medications.
May also be required to perform legal body cavity searches when directed by Sheriff's Office Administration.

10% RECORD KEEPING:
Maintains current drug records on all medication dispensed.
Labels medication and maintains charts for dispensing.
Maintains accurate medical records for each inmate.
Keeps weekly inventory of controlled medications and sharps.

5% TRANSFERS:
Prepares medical transfer papers when an inmate is being relocated to another facility (i.e. prison)

5% Other duties as assigned.
