About the Ocean City Police Department

The Town of Ocean City is Maryland’s only beach resort and is approximately 10 miles in length. There are only three accessible entry points to the resort and two of them are bridges. The year-round population averages between 6,500 and 7,000 and can swell between 200,000 and 300,000 on any given weekend during the summer months. There’s a boardwalk with numerous restaurants and shops that extends along the beach front for almost 2.5 miles. There are approximately 10,000 hotel rooms and 21,000 condominiums available throughout the months. Visitors can enjoy swimming, boating, fishing or just relaxing on the beach viewing the Atlantic Ocean.

In 1898, the Ocean City, MD Police Department began providing services to a quaint village on a sparsely populated sandbar. Over the past century, the Town of Ocean City has become one of the premier beach resort communities on the east coast hosting over 8 million visitors each year.

Today, the Ocean City Police Department now employs a sworn police force of 125 and hires an additional seasonal staff of approximately 80 to serve as civilian positions, to keep the swell of visitors safe during the summer months.

The Ocean City Police Department is made up of a Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division and Support Services Division utilizing state of the art technology and innovative policing techniques to accomplish its mission.
