JOIN THE FAIRFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT

Welcome to the Fairfield Police Department (FPD) in Fairfield, Connecticut. Since its founding in 1930, our department has grown to a dedicated and professional team of almost 200 members, including 112 sworn officers, approximately 40 non-sworn special officers/traffic agents, and 11 specialized and civilian support staff, including an embedded social worker. We are committed to maintaining Fairfield as a safe and vibrant community while evolving to meet the needs of modern policing.

We welcome individuals with a wide range of educational backgrounds and experiences—whether your expertise lies in criminal justice, psychology, business, technology, social work, or other fields. WHY CHOOSE FAIRFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT?

Whether working in schools, patrolling neighborhoods, or engaging in public outreach, our officers are trusted partners in the community.

Opportunities for Growth and Specialization

At the Fairfield Police Department, officers have access to diverse career paths and specialized units, enabling them to pursue their interests and enhance their skills.

Patrol Division: Our Patrol Division operates 24/7 as the first responders to emergencies and calls for service. These dedicated men and women ensure public safety, build trust through daily interactions, and uphold peace across the community. They also serve as the foundation for officers seeking future specialization or leadership roles within the department.

Specialized Units: Officers can explore roles in the K9 Unit, Regional Emergency Response Team (ERT), Drone/UAS Unit, Bicycle Unit, Motor Unit, and Honor Guard.

Investigative Services: Our Detective Division, Special Victims Unit, and Quality of Life Unit focus on solving complex cases and improving community well-being.

Traffic and Safety: The Traffic Enforcement and Crash Investigation Units are dedicated to maintaining safety on Fairfield's roadways.

Coastal and Waterway Safety: With five miles of shoreline along the Long Island Sound, as well as numerous lakes and rivers, Fairfield relies on our Marine Unit and Dive Team to ensure the safety of its waterways. These specialized teams handle waterborne emergencies, conduct search and rescue operations, and work closely with the U.S. Coast Guard and other area law enforcement agencies to protect our coastal and inland water resources.

Public, Community, and School Safety: Officers interested in working within our schools and with our youth can seek assignment to the School Safety Division. Additionally, the Department has officers who lead Community Outreach Programs, manage social media, and handle public relations. All of these roles aid in fostering trust and partnership with Fairfield’s residents.

With comprehensive training programs and leadership development opportunities, FPD is committed to the personal and professional growth of every team member.

Commitment to Innovation

We leverage the latest technology and best practices to provide cutting-edge public safety services, from drone units to advanced data systems for crime prevention.
