Full Time Police Officer
APPLICATION PERIOD - MAY 1, 2024 - August 31, 2024
The Toms River Police Department is accepting applications for our 2024 recruitment test application process. We are looking for applicants who meet strict educational, physical and ethical standards to take part in our selection process. The recruiting process is ongoing with testing occurring once every three (3) years. The candidate list from the 2024 process will be valid from January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2027.
Minimum Requirements:
- Be a citizen of the United States.
- Be a resident of the State of New Jersey during his or her term of appointment to this position.
- Between the ages of 18 and 34 or actively enrolled in the NJ Police and Fire Pension System or quality for a military or police service exemption as per the PFRS Member Handbook.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or 64 credits from an accredited college or university AND 2 years active-duty military experience OR 64 credits from an accredited college or university AND 2 years full time regular police officer experience.
- Possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License upon appointment.
- Successfully pass a background investigation.
- Be in sound body and good health, which must be certified by a physician licensed to practice in the State of New Jersey.
- Be of good moral character and must not have been convicted of any offense involving dishonesty as would make the applicant unfit to perform his or her duties.
- Be physically capable of performing the functions of the position in accordance with the Police Training Commission (PTC).
Application Process:
- Applicants meeting the above criteria will participate in a written examination (9/11/2024 at 6:00pm), with the top 150 scores moving on to the pre-interview stage of the process.
- Upon successful completion of the pre-interview, applicants will move on to the Physical Task Assessment and Swim Test.
- Those applicants achieving a passing score on both the Physical Task Assessment and Swim Test will move to the interview stage.
- All interviewed applicants will be ranked and placed on a list of candidates which is valid from January 1, 2025 -December 31, 2027 and will be contacted for further evaluation as positions become available.
