Exam Schedule
The physical agility will be held on April 13, 2024, at the Lake County Sheriff’s Department starting at 9AM. Check in for the physical will begin at 815AM.
The written exam will be held April 14, 2024, at Crown Point High School, beginning at 9AM. Check in will begin at 830AM.
Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of April 14th.
There will be no makeup examinations, it is your responsibility to ensure you are available on the dates above before you submit your application. There are no refunds.
ANY APPLICANT WHO IS ALREADY ACTIVELY CERTIFIED AS A POLICE OFFICER WILL AUTOMATICALLY ADVANCE TO THE INTERVIEW PROCESS. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PHYSICAL AGILITY OR WRITTEN EXAM. MUST UPLOAD DOCUMENTATION TO YOUR APPLICATION PROVING CERTIFIED STATUS.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen
- Minimum of 21 years of age
- High School Graduate or GED
- NO Felony Convictions or Domestic Violence Convictions
- Drug Free/Submit to taking a Drug Screening Test
- Pass a physical and written examination, unless you are a graduate of a basic law enforcement academy.
- Valid Driver's License
- Must reside within Lake County within 6 months from date of hire.
Job description/General Duties
Will be required to complete the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy within 1 year of date of hire.
Will be required to complete a minimum 14-week Field Training Program.
Will be required to work shift work.
Will be assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division for minimum of one year.

Salary
Starting Salary $58448.00
Lateral Step 1- 30 hours college credits-4% above base salary
Lateral Step 2- 60 hours college credits- 6% above base salary
Lateral Step 3- 90 hours college credits- 8% above base salary
Lateral Step 4- Bachelor's Degree- 10% above base salary
Lateral Step 5- Master's Degree- 12% above base salary

Testing Requirements
Physical Agility Testing Requirements:
Pushups-Minimum 23
One Minute Sit-ups- Minimum 26
Vertical Jump- Minimum 15 inches
300 Meter Run- Max Time 77 Seconds
1.5 Mile Run- Max Time 17 minutes 42 Seconds
Hiring Process
The Lake County Police Department hiring process can take several months and will consist of the following steps:
