ENTRY LEVEL POLICE OFFICER
Job Description and Environment:
The Town Of Cheshire is now accepting applications for the position of entry level Police Officer. This is a patrol officer position involving the responsibility for the protection of life and property; the prevention, detection and investigation of crime; and maintaining law and order. Patrol Officers provide Police Services to the Town of Cheshire 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year, so successful applicants should be prepared to work on nights, weekends, and holidays. Police Officers must use their own judgment and act without supervision in emergencies. Work is reviewed through reports, on-the-job inspection, and observations of results obtained. Successful applicants should be prepared to begin basic training at the Connecticut Police Academy during the Summer of 2023.
The Town of Cheshire offers a competitive salary and benefits package including: paid sick time, paid holidays, paid vacation, a 5/2-5/3 schedule for Patrol Officers, and a 401(a) retirement savings plan with a town contribution of 10.50% (rate effective July 1, 2023) in addition to the employee's minimum required contributiion (currently 6%). There are also other incentives such as shift differential (for evenings and night shift), sick time payout, educational incentive, tuition reimbursement for continued studies related to law enforcement, and an optional Town administered 457b deferred compensation plan. Qualifications:
Candidate must have NO Felony or Class A or B Misdemeanor Convictions
Candidates must be a US citizen or legal resident thereof, possess valid driver’s license at time of appointment, have earned a High School Diploma (or GED Equivalent), be a non-smoker, and be at least age 21 upon appointment.
Candidates will need to have taken and passed (minimum passing score of 70%) a CPCA written exam within the previous six months prior to applying and upload said results at time of application. Candidates will also need to possess a valid CHIP Card at the time of application, and a copy of said card should be uploaded with their application. Information on obtaining a valid CHIP Card can be found at: https://www.certifyfit.com/chip-test/.
Testing Process:
Following the application submission, a number of applicants will be asked to participate in an Oral Panel Examination. Furtherance in the process will require selected applicants to, upon request, take and pass the Physical Fitness Assessment and pass a rigorous background investigation to include, but not limited to, a polygraph and psychological examination, medical examination with drug screening, financial review with credit check, and an interview with the Chief of Police.
Salary:
Starting salary is $57, 726 upon appointment (for the duration of the academy). After completion of the Police Academy, the progressive salary range is $64,133 (for year one) to $84,352 (after 4 years of service).
