Certified Public Safety Line Dispatcher - Per Diem

Hourly pay range is from $26.29 - $33.58

Plus $.50 per hour shift differential for evening shift and $1.00 per hour for overnight shift.

Both hourly rate and earned paid time off will be considered for any lateral entry candidates.

The Sagadahoc County Communications Center is accepting applications for Per Diem Certified Dispatchers (No Benefits) and potential future openings for FT Public Safety Line Dispatcher.

Public Safety Dispatchers answer 9-1-1 calls for all of Sagadahoc County providing emergency and non-emergency dispatch services for law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. These are union-represented, rotating-shift positions, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as periodic overtime. Our current schedule is four 10-hour shifts per week. There is room for professional growth within our organizational chart. Retire after 25 years and enjoy an excellent benefits package including Meritain (a division of Aetna) health insurance coverage. Per the current collective bargaining agreement, the County pays 100% of healthcare, vision and dental premiums for all levels of coverage. Other union contract perks include: educational stipend, EMD/EFD Q hourly stipend, three weeks of vacation time and one week of personal time awarded on your first day of work.

This non-supervisory position requires significant, developed interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, use of radio, teletype, computer, and the Enhanced 9-1-1 telephone system. Teamwork, and the ability to work effectively under stress while paying strict attention to detail is essential. Direct entry of information into computers as received is essential to the job.

A high school diploma (or GED) and an exemplary background are required. Dispatchers must work well with the general public, public safety officials and organizations. Applicants must pass a written test and a medical examination and submit to a background investigation and a polygraph test. Depending on qualifications, candidates may be tested for a keyboard skill requirement of 30 WPM. Prior dispatch and/or communications skills are helpful, but not required.

Sagadahoc County offers two life insurance programs. Basic Life insurance is included with our health insurance plan if you sign up for health insurance. The Premium is one (1) time the annual salary. The county also pays for life insurance through Maine Public Employee Retirement System (MEPERS) (formerly known as Maine State Retirement). The premium provides coverage equal to two (2) times the annual salary plus $5,000 dollars for a spouse and $1,000 to 5,000 for children depending on age and status. Additional life insurance may be purchased through employee paid payroll deductions. There is a 30-day waiting period after initial employment, and then MEPERS life insurance takes effect the first of the following month.

County-paid short-term disability equal to 60% (up to $1,000) of employee’s weekly wages (taxable) 26 weeks limit; 30 day waiting period is provided.

County employees can participate in 3 retirement savings options, the county will match one plan of your choosing as described below. If employees enroll in the MEPERS retirement program, the County will contribute only to MEPERS.

a. MEPERS defined benefit plan; Employees contribute 9.5% of their gross salary, and the county contributes 12.7%. The contribution rate is subject to increase each year. Employees must enroll within 5 years of initial employment and buy up contributions skipped if not enrolling right away.

b. MaineSTART, a division of MEPERS. This is a 457 tax-deferred compensation savings plan. Employees may enroll at any time. This plan allows employees to choose from a set menu of targeted mutual funds. If the employee is not enrolled in MEPERS, the County contributes up to 6% of the gross annual salary.

c. VOYA 457 tax-deferred retirement investment program. The VOYA program allows employees to select investment options to suit individual needs. If the employee is not enrolled in MEPERS, the County will contribute up to 6% of the gross annual salary.
