OCEAN CITY, MD POLICE DEPARTMENT
Lateral Police Officer
The Ocean City Police Department is actively seeking Maryland certified police officers and out-of-state certified police officers who are willing to make a lateral change to Ocean City, Maryland.
As a Maryland certified lateral entry candidate you will attend a four (4) week orientation conducted by the Ocean City Police Department that includes firearms training/qualification, defensive tactics training, Town ordinance training, policy review, and field training.
As an out-of-state certified lateral entry candidate, you must have completed at least 980 hours of training through your state certification. If your out-of-state certification is less than 980 hours of training, you will be required to attend a full police academy through the State of Maryland. After completion of this training, you will participate in a nine (9) week Field Training and Evaluation Program conducted by the Ocean City Police Department.
Lateral entry officer will be subject to the same process as other police officer applicants. Processing of the applicant will include a written examination, physical abilities test, oral interview, background investigation, physical examination, and psychological evaluation.
Salary & Benefits
- $ 64,784.00 to $ 92,145.00 PFC PayScale
- Laterals start as a PFC and pay is based on service credit, up to 9 years credit available

Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a Maryland certified police officer OR an out-of-state certified police officer
- High School Diploma or GED recognized by the Maryland Board of Education
- 21 years of age at the time of employment
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- United States Citizen

Medical Requirements
- Good physical and mental condition
- Vision correctable to 20/20 with the ability to recognize basic colors
Hiring Process
Candidates must submit an application with preliminary background form attached, successfully complete an on-line written examination, structured virtual interview, physical abilities test, background investigation, polygraph examination, medical examination, and psychological evaluation.
In order to complete the on-line written test and virtual interview, applicants will need access to a computer with camera, and show a State issued driver's license or identification card.
TESTING PROCESS:

In an effort to streamline our testing process and alleviate the financial burden of traveling for applicant testing, our written testing and interview will be conducted online. The written test is a minimal cost compared to traveling to take an in-person test, incurring lodging, meals, and other travel expenses. This will allow the applicant to take the online test at their location and time of choice. Upon successful completion of the written test and virtual interview, an in person physical abilities test will be scheduled.

We are currently offering in-person testing on below listed dates. This in-person testing will comprise of the written exam (All Applicants), physical agility (Police Officer Applicants Only), and interview (All Applicants).

- IMPORTANT: The above listed dates are by reservation only and all applicants are required to bring with them their Physicians Waiver before they will be authorized to participate in the physical abilities exercise. This waiver must be signed by a licensed physician or a physician assistant.
- The physical ability test for police officer applicants will be conducted at the Ocean City Police Department, 6501 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, MD 21842.
- Once an applicant successfully completes the physical abilities test they will then be provided a background investigation packet to submit.
