The Brewster Police Department is seeking applicants for the position of police officer. We seek highly motivated candidates who want to make a difference in the community. Brewster is a seaside community with a year-round population of approximately 10,000 residents, which can grow to 30,000+ during the summer months. The department is currently budgeted to roster 23 sworn full-time police positions that are supported by 6 additional civilian staff members. Salary ranges from $64,022 - $81,099 based on experience, with additional educational incentives available. Brewster is an equal-opportunity employer. Job posted until filled.


Qualifying credentials include:

 Minimum age of 21 years.
 Possess a high school or high school equivalency diploma
 An Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, or prior military service is highly encouraged for uniformed personnel.
 Pass an oral interview.
 Pass a background investigation that includes a check of school records, credit history, inquiry as to character and reputation with family, past and current neighbors, and employment references, as well as a fingerprint-based criminal records check.
 Pass physical, psychological evaluation, and Physical Ability Test (PAT);
 Successfully pass a drug test.
 Non-full-time MPTC academy-trained employees will be subject to an additional physical test.
 Meet all certification requirements for Massachusetts police officers.

Selection Process:


Documentation: all candidates must submit a completed Application Form & resume; all additional requested information must be submitted when prompted to do so, including but not limited to signing the Authority for Release of Information and producing required documentation (e.g. Massachusetts Driver’s License, High School Diploma, Military Record, College Transcript, etc.)

1) Omissions, deficiencies & untruthfulness in the Recruit Candidate background Information form may
be used to disqualify a candidate.
2) Candidates failing to complete the application or produce the required documentation within the
required time frame will be disqualified from the selection process.
3) After submitting the completed application, the candidates will be informed, following the application
deadline whether or not they move on to the first phase of interviews.
4) Prior work experience, college degree, and other special qualifications will determine which
candidates continue through the process to the oral interview phases.
5) The final candidate(s) will move on to the background investigation phase.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Protecting the public: Patrolling areas, responding to calls, and ensuring the safety of people and property
  • Maintaining law and order: Enforcing laws and regulations, conducting traffic stops, and issuing citations
  • Preventing and detecting crime: Investigating crimes, searching for suspects, and collecting evidence
  • Preparing for legal proceedings: Writing reports, keeping records, and testifying in court.
  • Building community relationships: Fostering good relationships with the public and working with community groups
