Job Announcement:
The Coventry Police Department is currently looking to fill a full-time records clerk/dispatcher opening for Monday through Friday dayshift (8 AM - 4 PM). We are a full service police department that operates 24/7 but we are not a 911 PSAP.
Essential duties include receiving and dispatching routine and emergency calls, monitoring telephone and police radio systems, and using multiple computer systems to input, retrieve, and transmit information utilizing state and national databases. Duties also include entering and retrieving data from our Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System, handling walk-in complaints, and various clerical tasks. This position also handles records requests, filing, permit processing, and other related duties.
Prior police dispatch experience is preferred. The fulltime records clerk/dispatcher is a civilian, union position, which involves work often performed under pressure. Dispatchers are expected to communicate effectively, handle multiple tasks with continuous interruptions, and distinguish and comprehend simultaneous communications from several sources. Qualified candidates utilize good judgment in making decisions in emergency and routine situations. Working knowledge of the primary roads, streets, highways, major buildings and public facilities in town is a plus.
Minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing
- Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
- Successful completion of a background investigation
- Successful completion of a drug screening
Salary is currently $60,985 - $68,577 (moving to $62,816 - $70,636 on 7/1/25) commensurate with experience. Benefits include paid vacation and holidays, with other benefits including comp time, earned time, medical/dental insurance and a deferred comp contribution.
