Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Interacts with all NJ TRANSIT departments, ensuring their employees/contractors have the correct access needed to perform their duties, also removing access when the employee’s\contractor’s duties have been changed.

2. Administers the access control\Bosch alarm system, including the centralized alarm receivers, ensuring that the systems are functioning properly and that they provide the proper protection of assets (cash, equipment, facilities, etc.). 

3. Interacts with all NJ TRANSIT departments, ensuring their employees have alarm system codes to enter an area that is monitored by an alarm system. 

4. Performs crime prevention surveys at various facilities to identify weaknesses within the Access Control/Alarm System at locations, and recommends corrective action.

5. Acts as the Police Department’s liaison to building committees, including building rehabilitations and new construction, to ensure that rehabilitated/new buildings are designed with appropriate asset protection (Access Control/Alarm System) requirements.

6. Investigates the causes of Access Control\Alarm System issues, identifies problems, such as employee error or equipment failure, and recommends corrective action.

7. Assigns repair work for the Access Control\Alarm System to outside vendors, ensuring the completed repairs are working as intended. Also reviews vendors’ invoices prior to making payments.

8. Performs various administrative duties, which include, preparing correspondence, coordinating staff meetings and answering the telephones.

9. Performs any other duties upon request, as needed due to operational needs of the police department, during special events, emergencies, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

10. May be required to perform lifting of boxes, heavy objects, emergency structed tents, and set up\take down various Police equipment.

11. Perform any duties as directed by the Manager, Police Support Services.

12. Performs other tasks that may be asked or directed by the Chief of Police/ Deputy Chief of Police.


Knowledge and Skills:

• High School Diploma, or equivalent.

• BA in Criminal Justice desired.

• Three (3) years of experience in crime prevention applications (i.e. security systems software/crime prevention function/ access control). 

• Experience with access control software, monitoring of alarms system and employee identification system desired.

• Must pass a police background investigation.

• Must have proficient personal computer skills - MS Excel and MS Word required.

• Excellent organizational and communication skills required 

• Must be available to work when needed during but not limited to emergencies, weekends and holidays.
