BRIDGETON, NJ POLICE OFFICER

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be a U.S. citizen;
  • Be a resident of New Jersey;
  • Be able to read, write, and speak the English language fluently
  • Be at least 18 years of age and no older than 35 years of age at their time of appointment (N.J.S.A. 40A:14-127);
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license;
  • Have no criminal record;
  • Pass a physical examination conducted by a physician selected by City of Bridgeton;
  • Be of sound moral character verified by a background investigation;
  • Pass an oral interview with the Chief of Police / Administrative staff;
  • Pass a psychological examination;
  • Pass a drug screening
  • Pass a pre-academy physical fitness indicator test, with minimum scores of:
    1.5 mile run (in 15 minutes & 55 seconds or less) and;300-meter run (in 70.1 seconds or less) and;Vertical jump (15 inches or more) and;24 push-ups (in 1 minute or less) and;28 sit-ups (in 1 minute or less)

Bridgeton City as of 2020 census is currently populated around 26,000 residents of multiple diverse ethnicities. A typical yearly call volume for the police department is around 50,000 calls for service. The city is progressing with may small shops and offerings. Being a Bridgeton Police Officer, you will investigate many types of incidents gaining valuable experience in the profession.

Testing Requirements:

The Bridgeton Police Department is a New Jersey Civil Service Commission Law Enforcement jurisdiction, therefore all phases of recruitment, selection and hiring process for entry level law enforcement positions conform to the rules and regulations established by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission. Entry level exams are conducted exclusively by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission. This system requires that candidates be hired from a certified list supplied by the Commission following a state administered testing process.

Initial appointments of entry level police officers may, at the sole discretion of the appointing authority, be made in accordance with the provisions of N.J.S.A. 11A:4-1.3. The Civil Service Commission shall exempt from the requirement to take an examination for an entry-level law enforcement position a person who has successfully completed a full Basic Course for Police Officers training course at a school approved and authorized by the New Jersey Police Training Commission, either before or after being hired.

Hiring Process:

Pre Academy PT Testing, Background Investigation, Interview with Command Staff. Complete all medical, drug, psychological testing before attending an approved police academy.
