The Chesterfield Police Department is accepting resumes for the position of Special Law Enforcement Officer Class 1.
We are looking for the best Special Law Enforcement candidates to join our agency to continue to uphold our strong traditions and mission to provide the highest level of professional police service for our citizens. The Chesterfield Township Police Department offers challenging and rewarding careers for those who are committed to serving the public.
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Minimum age of 18, maximum age of 35 (unless actively enrolled in NJ Police & Fire Division of Pensions & Benefits)
- Proof of US Citizenship
- Proof of residency in New Jersey
- Proof of valid New Jersey driver’s license with less than 3 points
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language well.
- Have not been convicted of any criminal or moral turpitude offense.
- Is sound in body and good health
- Successfully pass a drug screening test.
- Applicants must successfully present themselves in a manner determined satisfactory in an oral interview given by the Personnel Review Committee.
SLEO I officers are responsible for various support functions, including: Traffic direction, parking enforcement, managing pedestrian crossings, security at special events, security for municipal buildings and properties, arrestee processing and detention management, detainee transportation within municipal facilities and community notifications.
SLEO I officers are authorized to perform routine traffic details, issue summonses for municipal ordinance and parking violations. In addition, they are permitted to use handcuffs and other restraining devices. However, they are prohibited from carrying or using firearms and are not designated as primary response personnel.
The “New Jersey First Act,” N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), requires new public employees to reside in the State of New Jersey within one (1) year of employment.
