The Borough of Madison is accepting applications for the position of Special Law Enforcement Officer Class III (SLEO Class III) to perform safety and security duties at the Borough of Madison Public Schools.

SALARY:
Starting salary for the S.L.E.O. Class III will be $37.00 per hour and will work a part time schedule, to be determined at a later date.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be a retired police officer who has previously served as a duly qualified, fully-trained, full-time officer in any municipality or county of this state or as a member of the New Jersey State Police.

Must reside in New Jersey and possess a valid NJ Driver’s license.

• Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language with reasonable proficiency and possess a High School diploma or equivalent.

Must be retired from that agency in good standing (necessary to have a letter of good standing issued by the agency from which officer retired, listing the date and type of retirement.  A copy will be submitted to the PTC). “Good Standing” shall exclude a retirement from injury or incapacity.

Must be of good moral character and no convictions of any offense involving dishonesty or any other behavior that would make the applicant unfit to perform his or her duties.

Must be less than 65 years of age at time of appointment.

Must successfully pass an updated background investigation to include a psychological exam and drug screen pursuant to Attorney General’s Law Enforcement Drug Testing Policy.

Must pass a medical exam and have doctor complete Medical Certification Form (Form PTC 8A).

Must be physically capable of performing the functions of the position, determined in accordance with the Police Academy Training Commission.

Break in service may not exceed 3 years.

• Must possess a New Jersey Police Training Commission Basic Police Officer Certification or NJ State Police Academy Certification.

Preference may be given to retired police officers who previously served as a School Resource Officer (SRO), Juvenile Officer, or D.A.R.E/L.E.A.D. Instructor.

• The Class III Officer shall work as assigned, to be determined upon hiring.

• The position will not receive health benefits, personal or vacation time. Paid sick leave will be earned at a rate consistent with NJ Earned Sick Leave Policy.

• Class III Officers are only eligible for extra duty details for school-related functions.

• Complete SRO training within 12 months of being appointed.
