SALARY
Starting Salary for Probationary Officer(s) $44,759
Top Patrolman Salary $140,579 with additional opportunities to earn overtime
ABOUT THE NEWTON POLICE DEPARTMENT
Newton, with a resident population of around 8,500, serves as the County Seat of Sussex County. The town is experiencing growth in both its residential and business sectors, leading to a significant increase in population and traffic during business hours. The Police Department, consisting of 23 full-time officers and 3 Class II Special sworn officers, is dedicated to providing the residents of Newton with the highest level of police services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be between 18 and 35 years of age
- Must be US Citizen and a Resident of New Jersey
- Must have (at minimum) a High School Diploma
- Must Possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License
- Preference may be given for full BCPO PTC Certification or scheduled to graduate from a NJPTC certified academy
- Must be able to successfully pass a full Background Check
- Must be able to qualify for NJ Police License
