Position available in the Police Department:

Full Time Class II SLEO

Applicants for this position must be 18 or older, possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License and be a New Jersey resident at the time of appointment.  Applicants applying for the Class II Officer position must have a high school diploma or its equivalent; certification by the New Jersey Police Training Commission as a Class II Officer preferred but not required.  Full-time Class II Officers work rotating shifts.  The successful candidate must pass a background check, pre-employment physical and drug screening. DEFINITION:

Under supervision of the Services Division Lieutenant, SLEO II Officers will be utilized to perform various specific functions which complement the department’s law enforcement role in compliance with New Jersey State Law.   Class IIs are intended to supplement the borough’s police force and Communications Center.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

• Report road conditions or hazardous conditions, traffic lights or street lights out, dead or sick animals, animals struck by motor vehicles, damaged road signs and lost or found items.
• Enforce the law, including State Criminal Code, Title 2C, Borough Ordinances, State Traffic Laws, Title 39.
• Assist the public with direction or information, disabled motorists, other police agencies and direction of traffic.
• Complete patrol of assigned zone.
• Answer all assigned calls.
• Operate school crossing guard posts, if assigned.
• Property checks on vacant houses and businesses.
• Operate Radar.
• Inspect assigned police vehicles and equipment daily.
• Cover special events, if assigned.
• Be proficient in the use of all emergency equipment.
• Fulfill the job responsibilities of the Communication Center.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must not be serving as a regularly appointed full-time police officer of any municipality or public official with responsibility for selecting law enforcement policy or exercising authority over the budget of the Borough or supervision of the Police Department of the Borough.
• Must be able to run or walk, sometimes for a duration in extreme weather conditions.
