Ventnor City - Class I Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO 1)

CLASS I SPECIAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Special Law Enforcement Officer, Class I (SLEO 1) is a seasonal, part-time, member of our police department working from early May through September. They shall be authorized to perform routine traffic details, provide essential public safety and law enforcement services for the department. Class I officers shall have the authority to issue summonses for disorderly persons offenses, petty disorderly offenses, violations of municipal ordinances and motor vehicle and parking violations (Title 39). Class I officers are not permitted to carry a firearm.
SLEO 1 TRAINING:
The training process for the Basic Course for SLEO 1 Officers is an 80-hour course. The course includes training in baton, handcuffing, oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray, defensive tactics, traffic control, disorderly persons offenses, traffic laws, first aid, use of force, various patrol concepts and ethics.
STARTING SALARY:
$18.00 / hour
MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must comply with the following basic qualification standards:
- United States citizen that possesses a valid driver’s license
- Age 18 or older at the time of hiring
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Read and write the English language
- Be of good moral character
- Pass background investigation, psychological profile, medical exam and drug screening
