Employment Opportunity

Position: Police Officer

The Essex Fells Police Department consists of 13 full-time officers patrolling a suburban area of 1.3 square miles, serving a population of 2,100 in western Essex County. The department is currently seeking one qualified candidate to fill a vacancy,

Benefits:

• Starting salary for non-certified is $47,758.89 and PTC certified is $53,789.86

Minimum Qualifications:

• Be a United States citizen and a New Jersey resident.
• Possess a valid NJ Driver’s license.
• Applicants must not be less than 18 years old or more than 35 years at the time of appointment.
• High School Diploma or GED
• Be of good moral character.
• Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.

 

Expectations:

• Candidate will successfully complete a Basic Police Training course or candidate must currently possess a PTC Certification.
• Will work twelve hours shifts; days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Be prepared to work outdoors, on foot, in any weather conditions.
• Follow orders and take directions.
• Be able to work independently, at times, with minimal direction or supervision.
• Maintain mental alertness and readiness to act, even during long periods of calm and inactivity.

 

Selection Criteria (for all qualified candidates):

1. Written Examination (min score of 80% to move onto physical agility portion)
2. Physical Agility Test (Pass/Fail)
3. Oral Interview (Pass/Fail)
4. Background Investigation (Pass/Fail)
5. Medical Examination (Pass/Fail)
6. Psychological Examination (Pass/Fail)
7. Drug Testing through Urinalysis (Pass/Fail)
8. Candidates who successfully pass the application phase will be subject to oral interviews.

 

Written Examination Notes & Instructions:

1. Application and testing fee is $135.00 NON-REFUNDABLE.
2. Test Location: Essex Fells Elementary School - 102 Hawthorne Road, Essex Fells, N.J. 07021
3. TEST DATE & TIME: October 4, 2024 @ 6:00 pm
4. MUST have current government-issued photo identification. NO ONE will be admitted to the test without proper photo identification.
5. No electronic devices will be permitted into the testing facility. All cell phones and other handheld electronic devices should be secured in your vehicles.
6. YOU WILL NEED AT LEAST TWO #2 PENCILS.
