POSTC CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICER
The Town of Winchester is seeking POSTC certified applicants for the position of police officer. Applications will be accepted throughout 2024. Our hiring process is on-going and based on existing vacancies. As of May 2024, we have three vacant positions, and we anticipate additional openings. Certified applicants must have a valid POSTC certification card (CT preferred) and complete the application.

WORK SCHEDULE:
The basic work week consists of three eight-hour-shifts: Midnight (0000-0800), Day (0800-1600), & Evening (1600-0000). All shifts work alternating schedules of five consecutive days on & three consecutive days off, followed by five consecutive days on & two consecutive days off. Shift schedules change October 1st and April 1st each year and are bid by seniority.

The Town of Winchester participates in the CPCA entry level written test program. Only individuals who take and pass the CPCA written test will be permitted to apply to the Winchester Police Department. Entry level applicants must also have a valid 40 % C.H.I.P score within six months of the application date. Go to https://www.certifyfit.com/test-schedule/ for additional test dates and information. Certified applicants must have a valid Connecticut POSTC certification card.
SALARY RANGE & BENEFITS (Effective 07/01/2024):
Certified officer salary range $82,520.98 to $85,275.62, commensurate with experience. Four steps over a five-year period. Shift premium pay for evening and midnight shift.
