Our Department
Officers earn a competitive salary, educational incentive, shift differential, overtime, detail opportunities and excellent health insurance.
Officers enjoy a new police station, worker friendly setting, and new equipment and fitness room. The Department consists of 20 full-time Officers, including the Chief, Lieutenant, five Patrol Sergeants and two Detectives. Shifts operate 24/7 with between two and four Officers, and our Communications Center is staffed by at least one Dispatcher at all times.
Our Community
The Town of Freetown, located in Southeastern Massachusetts, is among one of 20 communities in Bristol County. The town has a total land area of 36.6 square miles and an additional water area of 1.7 square miles. The town borders the cities of Fall River and New Bedford, and the towns of Acushnet, Berkley, Dartmouth, Lakeville and Rochester. Two state highways (Routes 24 & 140) travel through our community. Our town also includes access to Long Pond in addition to a substantial area of the 5,411-acre Freetown State Forest, located in the heart of our community, and offering recreationists 50 miles of unpaved roads and trails. Although the town is primarily residential, a MBTA commuter rail station is located on the west side of the community and in close proximity to Amazon and Stop & Shop distribution facilities.
The Town of Freetown’s unique location provides us with both challenges and many opportunities. It is the goal of the men and women of the Freetown Police Department to provide the finest quality, professional law enforcement services to our community.
