RECRUITING ANNOUNCEMENT
The City of Woonsocket, Rhode Island is holding open competitive examinations to establish an eligibility list for the position of Police Officer
APPLICATIONS:
- Applications must be submitted online via policeapp.com by 4:00 pm, Friday, March 24, 2023
- There is a non-refundable $65.00 testing fee. ($30 May be waived in cases of financial burden – submit a letter to Personnel Division for consideration)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be a US citizen
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Minimum of a high school diploma, or equivalent
- Have no felony convictions
SALARY SALARY:
- Probationary salary rate: $856.06.29 per week
- Salary rate after probation: $1,170.78 per week
- Paid vacation, paid holidays, sick leave, medical and dental insurance, and longevity incentives.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Woonsocket Police Department is an accredited law enforcement agency committed to the community policing philosophy. At full strength, the Department has 101 officers assigned throughout its Divisions and Specialized Units: Uniform Patrol / Detectives / K-9 / Juvenile Division / Court Prosecution / Traffic / Vice / SWAT / Honor Guard / Training / Internal Affairs.
Police officers have the responsibility and duty to safeguard life and property through legal and ethical enforcement of State / Federal law and City Ordinances, to respond to and take action in emergencies, to competently investigate crimes and pursue offenders, to diligently maintain order and to address quality of life issues with respect for all persons, in accordance with established policies and procedures.

OVERVIEW OF THE RECRUITING PROCESS:

Applicants who pass the written exam are invited to take the Fitness Assessment.

Applicants who pass the Written and Fitness assessment are invited to the Oral Board.

FINAL LIST
Applicants who complete these stages will be placed on a hiring list that is active for a period of at least six months and may be active for up to two years.
BACKGROUND CHECK
Before employment, applicants on the hiring list are subject to an extensive background check, psychological and medical examinations, and a fitness assessment by the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy.
