The Hampden police department is a full time agency serving a community of 5,500. The department has ten full time Officers supplemented with Reserve Officers, with several civilian staff. The department prides itself on being community oriented, hosting multiple events throughout the year to engage with our citizens to include a public safety night out, toy drives, food drives and similar. The Town is approximately 20 square miles, and the department responds to varying call types throughout the year. Hampden borders communities such as Springfield, Wilbraham, Monson and East Longmeadow.

The Hampden police department is housed in a modern police facility and serves a community that values it's police officers. We offer a small town environment, yet play a vital role in the safety and well-being of our residents.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma/GED
  • College or university degree PREFERRED/criminal justice field or related fields
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • PREFERRED graduate of MPTC Academy/Bridge Academy and Massachusetts POST certified
  • Must hold a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to possess a Class A License to Carry Firearms
  • Ability to work any hours and in all weather conditions
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in job requirements after being trained
  • Complete an in-house field training program
  • Ability to pass a Physical Abilities Test
  • Complete an interview process
  • Complete a medical, drug and psychological exam
  • Pass a comprehensive background investigation

Job Description/General Duties:

We are seeking individuals who are highly motivated, self-disciplined, and possess a strong interest in community policing philosophy. We invest in our officers through comprehensive training, mental health support, and leadership development. Police Officers are expected to carry out a range of tasks to include physical components, in all weather conditions and times.
