About the Department

Located along the Connecticut River, the City of Chicopee is home to 55,560 residents.  Chicopee is the second largest city in Western Mass and nestled between the cities of Springfield and Holyoke.  Situated at the intersection of Route 90 and Route 91, Chicopee is known as the “Crossroads of New England.”  Chicopee is a culturally diverse, historically rich city and  was recently ranked the most affordable community in Massachusetts by the Family Destinations Guide.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age upon appointment.
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
  • Must pass a physical ability test, medical evaluation, and comprehensive background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain a Firearms Identification Card and License to Carry in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MPTC Certified Full Time Academy or equivalent

Compensation and Benefits

The City of Chicopee offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Starting Salary: Commensurate with experience and collective bargaining agreement. $67,884.44 - $86,561.28 before education, stipends, and holiday pay
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • $1,500 Clothing allowance annually
  • On Duty Workout program
  • Up to 32 paid vacation days, sick, and personal time.

All appointments are subject to meeting the requirements set forth by the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission. Applicants must be able to complete a physical and psychological examination and a comprehensive background investigation.

The City of Chicopee offers a very competitive salary and benefits package to include half Quinn Bill benefits for all new officers who qualify in accordance with the current CBA.
