DEPUTY SHERIFF

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Shall possess a valid Indiana driver’s license (or obtain one within 60 days of becoming an Indiana resident) and have no more than 8 active points
  • Shall be a U.S. citizen
  • Shall be at least 21 years of age by the date of appointment
  • Shall be drug-free and have no felony convictions
  • Shall not have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic battery, stalking, or violations of Protective Order
  • Shall not have any OWI convictions within the past 5 years prior to the time of application
  • Shall not have been dishonorably discharged from the military
  • Shall be a high school graduate or possess a GED certificate
  • Shall not have used an illegal drug in the last three years
  • Shall not have bought, sold (dealing), or possessed marijuana illegally within 1 year prior to time of application
  • Shall not have bought, sold (dealing), or possessed any controlled substance or narcotic drug except marijuana without a prescription within 3 years prior to time of application
  • Shall not have tattoos on head, face or neck by the time of the conditional job offer.
  • ** Lateral candidates MUST meet all pre-employment minimum qualifications listed above as well as currently possess ILEA Tier I certification.  Lateral candidates must also submit an Application for Testing Waiver, found in the documents section of this posting.

Salary & Benefits

  • Base Rate $70,000
  • Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office utilizes a 20-year pay matrix.  Lateral entry candidates may start with up to three years of credit on the current pay matrix.  Starting salary will be calculated based on the candidates prior completed years of full time, sworn experience.  Completed years as Reserve, Part Time, or Volunteer services will not be awarded as credit toward the pay matrix.  Annual salary increases following the current 20-year matrix up to $89,600 for patrol.  Rank and Seniority are non-transferable and will not be taken into consideration for paid time off or scheduling purposes.
  • In addition to base salary, the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office offers incentive pay for Water Rescue, Crash Reconstruction, Crime Scene Investigator, and Special Weapons (SWAT).

Selection Process

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office selection process can take up to 2 months from the date of closing and consists of the following steps.  Written and Physical Fitness Examinations may be waived for lateral candidates.
