The Asbury Park Police Department serves a diverse community of 16,500 residents in a city of 1.5 square miles. Asbury Park is unique in that it is comprised of a residential, downtown, and beachfront areas. The Asbury Park Police Department is comprised of several different divisions including Community Relations, Investigations, Internal Affairs, Administration, and Patrol. The Asbury Park Police Department serves a diverse community of residents, and equally diverse geographical area. Asbury Park is both a city and a beach town, and has been named as one of the top beaches in New Jersey. During the summer months Asbury Park is home to numerous concerts, special events, and serves as a tourism destination for surrounding states. The Asbury Park Police Department serves as a pillar of safety and security for both residents and visitors alike.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have SLEO II Academy Certificate
  • Citizenship: Be a United States citizen
  • Residency: Be a New Jersey resident at the time of appointment
  • Read & Write: Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language fluently
  • Age: Be at least 18 years old and typically not older than 35
  • Education: Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Driver's License: Have a valid New Jersey driver's license
  • Physical Fitness: Pass a physical agility test including elements like vertical jump, sit-ups, push-ups, 300-meter run, and a 1.5-mile run
  • Background Check: Pass a thorough background investigation demonstrating good moral character
  • Psychological Evaluation: Pass a psychological examination
  • Medical Examination: Pass a medical examination including a drug test

Job Description/General Duties:

These officers have the same authority and arrest powers as a full-time police officer while they are employed and on-duty. In addition to the above responsibilities, they have the responsibility of carrying a firearm.

SLEO’s are utilized in a variety of capacities. Assignments are made based on departmental demands.

Benefits:

Salary of $22.00/HR, SLEO II Officers have the chance to become full time sworn law enforcement officers as staffing needs dictate.

Testing Requirements:

Upon completion of the Background investigation and Interview, candidates will need to submit to a medical evaluation, psychological evaluation, and fitness test.
