About Our Department

The Decatur Police Department serves a growing community of over 6,000 citizens. The City of Decatur is located in the center of Wise County, being the county seat. Major transportation routes within the area are US 81, US 380 and FM 51. Decatur is located in between Ft Worth and Wichita Falls, Texas and within 60 miles of the Dallas-Ft Worth International Airport. 
 
The Decatur Police Department has recognized status with the Texas Police Chiefs Association Best Practices Recognition Program. Being recognized means that the agency meets or exceeds all the identified best practices for Texas Law Enforcement. These Best Practices cover aspects of law enforcement operations such as use of force, protection, protection of citizen rights, pursuits, property and evidence, management, patrol operations and investigative operations.
 
The Decatur Police Department places pride in developing relationships with the community. The police department believes that by practicing the principles of community oriented policing; the police department will best achieve a feeling of security in the community.

Our Department’s mission is to work in harmony with all citizens and businesses in the City of Decatur. Our goal is to enhance community safety and to reduce the fear and occurrence of crime. 
By working together with the citizens of Decatur, the members of the Police Department will act as leaders to protect and improve the quality of life within our community.
