General Statement of Job

 

Research and analyze criminal activities in support of operational goals and mission to implement and support the Stratified Model of Problem Solving. Provide short-term and long-term crime and intelligence analysis to law enforcement personnel and other components to assist in the identification of on-going and emerging crime patterns and trends, serious and prolific offenders, and criminal groups and organizations.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • A high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Possess a valid driver license.
  • Experience with analyzing data, identifying trends and patterns, charts/graphs, problem solving, and writing summary reports is preferred.
  • Experience in an analytical role or closely related position preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is preferred

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Conduct all essential job functions of an Investigative Analyst.
  • Utilize a variety of resources, including crime mapping technology, computer-aided dispatch, police reports, and contacts with other professionals in their area and around the country.
  • Identify and analyze patterns, trends, and emerging problems concerning criminal activity.
  • Identify times and areas where a particular crime or a range of criminal activity is or is likely to occur.
  • Identify and analyze chronic offenders to include determining paths of criminal activity.
  • Gather and analyze crime statistics and produce reports in support of operational needs, goals, and strategic planning.
  • Perform related duties as required.

 

 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, government regulations, agency policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, transcription, designing forms and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Knowledge of and above average skill in the use of computer hardware and software including word processing, database, spreadsheets and specialized software.
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce sensible solutions.
  • Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions including finding relationship among seemingly unrelated events.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
  • Ability to discern when something is wrong or likely to be wrong, recognizing there is a problem and offering solutions.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner.

 

Standards to Perform Job Functions

 

The physical abilities listed below are estimates of time spent during a typical work day to perform essential functions and responsibilities. Members in this position may be required to:

 

  • Sit up to 8 hours per day
  • Stand up to 1 hour per day
  • Walk up to 1 hour per day
  • Drive up to 1 hour per day
  • Lift up 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally bend, squat, climb, reach, kneel, and/or twist
