The Intelligence Research Specialist provides support to the Montana Analysis and Technical Information Center (MATIC) Crime Analysts and the law enforcement community.

The incumbent’s probationary year of training will serve to provide confidential criminal justice information to criminal justice agencies and personnel to support the investigation of crimes, major criminal conspiracies, projections about criminal operations or the production of estimates regarding future major criminal activities (MCA 44-5-103). Accuracy and attention to detail is critical for this position. Incomplete, inaccurate, or untimely information can be life-threatening to the law enforcement community requesting information and could cause considerable liability to the State.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 1 to 2 years job-related college or vocational training related to general office and/or computer studies. Other related and/or acceptable fields of study: Law Enforcement, Sociology, Public Safety, or Homeland Security.
  • CJIN Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • The employee hired into this position must be able to pass a criminal background check. The employee must also be able to pass a background check up to the level of secret classified conducted by the federal agency within a year of hire. If the incumbent is unable to obtain this clearance, employment will be terminated.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Working knowledge or experience applying 28 CFR Part 23. (This is the area in the Code of Federal Regulation that deals with handling of criminal intelligence information.)
  • Experience with intelligence research.
  • Experience and/or certification in CJIN (Criminal Justice Information Network).
  • Experience with searching/querying multiple public databases.
  • Experience or familiarity with law enforcement/criminal justice entities and processes.
