Minimum Requirements
- Must be a Certified Police Officer having graduated from a Law Enforcement Academy
- Must be a US Citizen
- Minimum of 21 years of age
- High School Graduate or GED
- NO Felony Convictions or Domestic Violence Convictions
- Drug Free/Submit to taking a Drug Screening Test
- Valid Driver's License
- Must reside within Lake County, Indiana or a surrounding county (Porter, Jasper, Newton), within 6 months of employment.
Job description/General Duties
Will be required to complete a minimum 5-week Field Training Program.
Will be required to work shift work.
Will be assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division for minimum of one year.

Salary
Starting Salary $58,448.00
Lateral Step 1- 30 hours college credits-4% above base salary
Lateral Step 2- 60 hours college credits- 6% above base salary
Lateral Step 3- 90 hours college credits- 8% above base salary
Lateral Step 4- Bachelor's Degree- 10% above base salary
Lateral Step 5- Master's Degree- 12% above base salary

Uniform Allowance $1300 year/$650 Bi-Annually

Life Insurance
1 week vacation after 6 months of service, increases based on years of service.
Insurance eligible after 90 days
-Single Insurance $50 monthly
-Employee and 1 dependent $100 monthly
-Employee and 2 or more dependents $135 monthly
Take home vehicles.
Hiring Process
The Lake County Police Department hiring process can take several months and will consist of the following steps:

6. Psychological Examination
7. Medical Examination/Drug Screening
