Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify for a Police Officer certification and/or lateral transfer in Connecticut, an officer must meet all relevant requirements established by the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POST), some of which include but not limited to:
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
- High School Graduate or have passed the General Educational Development test (GED)
- A valid Connecticut's Driver's License
- Not dismissed from any former law enforcement unit(s) for malfeasance or other serious misconduct
- Did not resign or retire from a police officer position while under investigation for malfeasance
- Did not resign or retire from a police officer position while under investigation for serious misconduct
- Must be a Certified Police Officer or State Trooper; and has successfully passed probation and is in good standing with their current agency
Preferred Qualifications:
- An ability and willingness to undertake a course of study in a job-related field at an institute of higher learning, leading to an advancement in education
