ABOUT US
The Town of Orange is situated in a geographically busy area, between the major cities of New Haven and Bridgeport. It has an area of 17.6 square miles, with a population of approximately 13,500. There are several major roadways in town to include Rt. 15, Rt. 34, Interstate 95 and a three-mile stretch of U.S. Rt. 1, where many commercial and business establishments are located. The employee population of Orange is estimated to be approximately 10,135 and thousands of vehicles travel through Orange each day.
The Orange Police Department currently has an authorized strength of 46 sworn personnel and 12 civilian employees. The Patrol Division is the backbone of the Department and responds to numerous calls for service. The Investigative Services Unit investigates major crimes and conducts follow-up investigations of complex cases. The Orange Police Department is the Town’s designated First Responder, responding to all medical emergencies. All members are trained to the level of at least Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) with several members being trained to the higher level of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). All of our officers are college educated with a minimum requirement of 60 credits, however many hold higher degrees.
The Department prides itself on its responsiveness to the needs of both our residential and business communities. Integrity, professionalism and respect are key components of our community policing initiatives. Some of the many services that we offer to our community are D.A.R.E., Motorcycle, Bicycle, ATV , and K-9 programs. We have officers who are trained as car seat safety technicians, and we install many child car seats throughout the course of the year. We also offer a Citizens Police Academy program, which has been very successful. Graduates of previous academies have greatly enjoyed the experience and we encourage anyone who is interested to take advantage of future opportunities to attend and see firsthand what a great department we have.
The Orange Police Department is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
