General Statement of Job

This position is under the direction of the Health Service Manager. This position will develop, plan, and implement strategies for program continuation and growth. Providing direction and support to inmates is essential. This position must have a positive and supportive attitude toward the agency’s overall success. Must be able to identify behaviors that impede rehabilitation and provide treatment planning to modify behavior. Must have the ability to think globally, solve problems and have good decision-making skills, including critical thinking skills.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited university in Clinical Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field.
  • Current substance abuse certification.
  • Three years of administrative supervisory experience.
  • Minimum five years of substance abuse counseling experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Essential Job Functions

  • Regular and prompt job attendance.
  • Provide support to the medical department by evaluating inmates for potential withdrawal concerns.
  • Prioritize the use of best and evidence based practices, including researching programming trends and current practices being utilized in other jurisdictions.
  • Conduct individual sessions and didactic lectures with inmates.
  • Provide referrals to both Outpatient and Inpatient facilities prior to release, as needed.
  • Provide referrals for MOUD as requested by inmates.
  • Identify Co-Occurring Disorders and provide referrals to on-staff LMHC or outside agency.
  • Coordinate interviews with outside agencies such as treatment facilities, case managers, etc.
  • Follow all standards and patient care protocols, all federal, state, correctional health care standards, and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office policies, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Participate in the review of clinical issues and program policies and procedures.
  • Participate in continuing education and in-service training to maintain professional capabilities and proficiency.
  • Attends mandatory and other training as required.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of psychological test administration, scoring and interpretation and DSM 5 TR.
  • Knowledge of a range of counseling and therapeutic techniques.
  • Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
  • Skill in interviewing and identifying substance abuse issues.
  • Skill in effective writing.
  • Ability to accurately assess patient presentation in order to develop diagnosis and individualized treatment plan.
  • Ability to apply behavioral health counseling and techniques.
  • Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic programs and to make individual modifications.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse community.
  • Ability to supervise and deliver results by maximizing organizational effectiveness and sustainability.

  • Walk up 4 hours per day
  • Frequently lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
