The Town of Brookfield is currently seeking applicants for the position of Police Officer.
Minimum Qualifications:
U.S. Citizen - 21 Years of Age - H.S. Diploma/GED
Valid Driver’s License
No Felony or A or B Misdemeanor Convictions
Compensation Includes:
- (Effective 7/1/24)
- Salary: $62,035 to start ($70,626 after six months) to $90,266 (the current year-five top step salary)

About the Brookfield Police Department
Brookfield is a small town located north of the City of Danbury in Fairfield County, Connecticut, and covers 20+ square miles. It is bordered west by Candlewood Lake and east by Lake Lillinonah, two of Connecticut's largest and
most scenic lakes. The town has a robust economy, a strong retail and commercial base, and a growing resident population of more than 17,000.
The Brookfield Police Department was organized on July 1, 1977, and has a current authorized strength of 36 full-time sworn officers, four special officers, and 12 full and part-time civilian personnel. The Department Command Staff consists of the Chief of Police, a Major, and two Captains. There is a Patrol Division, a Detective Division, a Youth Officer and School Resource Officers, a SCUBA Team, Crash Investigation Team, Community Affairs Team, Tactical Operators with the Danbury Emergency Services Unit, part-time Evidence Technicians, and a K-9 and Drone units.
Police Officers are represented by the Brookfield Police Union, Local 1544, AFSCME Council 4, in contract negotiations for salary and benefits.
Hiring Process:
The selection process is essential in ensuring that the most qualified candidates are considered for the position of police officer. The process will include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Written Examination (75%)
- Physical Ability (CHIP 40%)
- Oral Examination
- Drug Test
- Pre-Background Polygraph
- Detailed Background Investigation
- Chief’s Interview
- Polygraph Examination
- Psychological Exam
- Medical Exam
