ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT
The Westminster Police Department is a full-service municipal police agency providing 24/7 coverage for our community. We are currently authorized forty-five (45) sworn police officers who hold the ranks of Police Officer, Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, and Chief. Additionally, we currently have thirteen (13) civilian staff members who provide integral support to our operations. Our department is comprised of a Patrol Bureau and a Criminal Investigations Bureau. We have K9 teams, detectives, community outreach officers, and investigators assigned to specialized tasks forces, including the county-wide Drug and Firearms Trafficking Task Force, the Child Advocacy and Investigations Center, and the US Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force. We also have a Dispatch Division and several grant-funded support teams. Opportunities exist to get trained and certified in a variety of specialty skills, such as bicycle and e-bicycle patrol, crisis intervention team, SWAT, hostage negotiations, and firearms instructor.

OUR COMMUNITY
The City of Westminster is the county seat of Carroll County, Maryland. The city's population during the 2021 census was 20,062. McDaniel College is located within our jurisdiction. We are located just northwest of Baltimore and are known for our rich and heavily preserved historical culture, lovely suburbs, and extensive arts community. We have a robust "downtown" area, many quality neighborhoods, and great schools. Most importantly, our community supports our agency, our mission, and our police officers.
