SALARY AND BENEFITS

Annual salaries as of July 1, 2024

  • Starting salary of $61, 057.36/Top step $74,186.84 (A lateral transfer’s time in their previous position will be honored and reflect their starting salary);

The typical work week consists of a rotating schedule of 4 days on followed by 2
days off.

  • 13 paid holidays annually
  • Co-pay for Medical, Dental and Prescription coverage
  • $50,000 Life Insurance
  • Longevity incentives start after three (3) years of service.
  • Clothing purchase and maintenance allowance $1,900
  • Three (3) personal days per year
  • 1-5 years of service – 15 vacation days per year

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for appointment as a lateral police officer, an applicant must:

  • Must be P.O.S.T certified.
  • Successfully complete of a command staff interview(s)
  • Successfully complete of a background investigation
  • Successfully complete of a psychological examination
  • Successfully complete of a medical examination
  • Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy (RIMPTA) and Police Officer Standard and Training (POST) approval
