About North Providence

The North Providence Police Department is a professional organization, which is dedicated to serving the community through the protection of life and property, as well as the prevention of crime. The Department is made up of 64 sworn officers and 7 civilian employees within 3 divisions.  This includes the Chief of Police, Deputy Chief and 62 officers of various ranks.  The Patrol Division is under the command of 1 Captain and is comprised of three watches, each consisting of 9 officers, 3 Sergeants and 1 Lieutenant, who serves as the Shift Commander.  The Criminal Investigative Division is commanded by 1 Captain and includes 7 Detectives and 1 Lieutenant, who serves as the Department’s Prosecution Officer.  The Administrative Services Division is under the command of 1 Captain, and includes the Planning and Training Unit, which is led by 1 Lieutenant.  The Community Affairs Unit is under the direction of 1 Lieutenant, includes 1 Sergeant and is overseen by the Deputy Chief.  The North Providence Police Department is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to enhance public safety.
